Re: JUMP!
Thanks for defending rational thinking, Doc. In any crowd, you take people stuck in cars on their way to tenuous jobs due to the economy and force them to crawl for three hours through a normal 15- to 30-minute segment, making them late, hot, and angry, and you'll get a few jerks. On the other hand, as sympathetic as one should be to anyone driven to suicidal attempts, she did choose the way in which to inconvenience the maximum number of people. In balance, a human life is more important. But it's not surprising to see some number of people, already on edge (or mentally deficient to begin with) treat her life as meaningless and a game.
I'm smug because, even though the Ship Canal Bridge is often part of my car commute, I biked. I bike most days because even excluding the occasional jumper, I can reach my destination plus or minutes 15 minutes of driving by car. (Oddly, on the same route, driving in can take 10 to 15 minutes; driving home, 20 to 60. My bike commute takes virtually the same amount of time each time, or about 25 minutes.)
I noticed the backup on the way into work and thought, thank God I bike.
