A Meaner, Mobile Seattle
I have lived in Seattle since 1984, with a 4 year haiatus in New York, where I met a different kind of person. Seattle is most definately shifting towards the East in attitudes, and this trend is nowhere more evident than on the roads.
Used to be, in Seattle, the crosswalk was sacred ground. Even if the light were against the pedestrian, a driver than happened into a crosswalk would obsequiously genuflect to the ped, then scamper off, tail-betwixt-legs.
Not any more. People play the "Ooh. Other lane suddenly better. MUST GET OVER" game alot more, not realising that they are, in fact, the cause of the traffic problems.
Now they want to do away with the HOV lanes across the lake bridges. My dad asked me, if they should do this, and I said, "No, in fact they should make them ALL HOV lanes. During rush hour, you can't take a car across the bridge with fewer than 2 people in it and you can't take an SUV across with fewer than 3 people."
Anyway, does this latest incident on the bridge disturb me? Yes it does. Does it at all surprise me? I'm sorry to say it does not.
