So I guess it's safe to shit on Chapters, too
| | Peter Rukavina, whose blog is Reinvented.net, has posted a letter to Chapters, the Canadian bookstore that denied him acess to this very site, apparently because it contains the phrase "shitting on Sony." Specifically, the censor said, "This page has been blocked by the Content Filter for containing adult content not suitable for a public access environment." Well, damn. |
| | For what little it's worth, I had a great time being interviewed by Chapters when I was out flogging the Cluetrain book last year. The interview appears to be off the Web now, but the original mention of it is here. It was pretty good. Wish it still existed. |
| | Peter and Reinvented.net make their home in Prince Edward Island. My parents loved PEI and went up there as often as they could for many years. Same with my sister, who still owns some land there. I'm the only one of the four of us who hasn't made it there yet. Looking around Peter's site, I'm tempted. |
400 miles and one blood test later...
| | So I'm sitting in the Starbucks at Sequoia Station in Redwood City, jacked into the MobileStar system, to which I just paid $59.95 for a month of guaranteed cappucino business for Starbucks everywhere but Santa Barbara, it looks like. |
| | Got up at 3-something AM, hit the road about an hour later, and was so sleepy on the road that I had to snooze in two parking lots before I got to Santa Cruz, where I picked up my daughter. Did several errands after that, and now I'm killing an iced tea and an overpriced ... what is this?...Lowfat Turkey Onion Panini sandwichette for lunch at 3:22pm. |
| | I'm having some routine bloodwork done (don't worry, I'm okay: it really is routine nobigdeal stuff) at Kaiser Redwood City, and waiting for results. Kaiser is still our health care provider. The nearest Kaiser facility to Santa Barbara is Thousand Oaks or something, which is, impractically speaking, a day trip away. So it's good that I'm here and in a position to get some health stuff done. |
| | Just went by the old house, and it almost hurt to see it. It looked the same, except for the ladders and stuff scattered around. Nobody was home, which was just as well. I had to get out of there. I really loved that house. Miss it, too; even though I like Santa Barbara a lot better as a place to live. |
| | By the end of this weekend we'll be completely moved into the new place, which is good. No more stuff scattered behind us like a comet trail. |
Flying low
| | I bit the cotton candy and rented a car to drive up to Linux World in San Francisco. A Nissan Altima from Hertz. Surpirisingly, it was the cheapest deal, both on Travelocity and when I called the agencies. Nice car too. Handles well. Comfortable. Big trunk. |
| | My only peeve is the absence of a cassette player. I like to listen to tapes I've recorded conference presentations and interviews, mostly. Having a CD player doesn't cut it. But now cassettes are obsolete. Too bad. They're highly useful. |
| | Anyway, I leave in four hours and have to sleep. Managed to prepare somewhat, in spite of a great weekend with friends and relatives visiting from various places. |
| | My next post will probably be tonight in The City. |
