News: the banal abounds
Maybe a whole 'nuther planet
| | I remember some woman recently pointing to Eric S. Raymond and, not knowing who he was, remarking, "There's a happy guy." I never thought about it, but she was right. Eric is a happy guy. |
| | So what will Linux World Expo be without the levitating presence the King of Open Source? I can hardly imagine. But apparently there was some kind of screw-up (Eric says by IDG, which puts on the show), and he won't be there. Or on my panel on Wednesday, which sucks. |
| | Seems meaningful in some way. A year ago somebody would have paid to send him there, no matter what. But VA is hair-deep in trouble these days. |
| | Yet this is going to be the biggest LWE ever, I hear. I'm looking forward to seeing what that will be like. Clearly Linux is a lot bigger than the first generation of Linux companies could make it. Bu what else is it now? It'll be a shame not to have ESR there to help us make sense of it. |
Let me make Nxa46lkwhjk@zk pefectly leerc
| | My office is half empty. My other office the new one in my home is more than full. Of boxes. And wires. And tapes. And bags of paper, electronics, CD-ROMs for who-knows-what. |
| | Now I'm trying to get ready to drive up to LinuxWorld tomorrow, in a beat-up car with no air conditioning, because the garage is still waiting for an epansion valve or something. They don't care a whole lot, since they believe a car this old and beat up has no business with air conditioning. But I don't want to buy a new car yet. I may be a little impulsive about computer and electronic stuff, but not about cars. The last time I made an impulse car purchase, I got my current hunk of junk. |
| | Anyway, I've got at least one more piece to write for LJ, plus all my packing and preparing, to do before my departure at 4am, a little more than 11 hours from now. |
| | But the stuff I need to gather is in all these bags and boxes. I've been looking through them for hours, putting together pieces of pieces. For example, I have my Handspring, but not the cradle. I have a crossover cable around here somewhere. Just saw it. But where? |
| | Anyway, that's what I'm dong right now. That and avoiding email. |

Hi Doc,
Just saw that you are thinking about buying a new car. I'm not sure if you are looking at sedans, but if you are, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Honda Accord. It's roomy, it handles great, (at least the EX model) has sufficient power (if you get the V6 it has more than plenty of power), good gas mileage (about 25 average for the 4 cylinder, 20 for the V6) and good reliability.
Negatives? The AC isn't quite as powerful as the Camry, but I haven't had any problems that aren't accident related.
Definitely a car that I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a new sedan and a car that I would buy again and will when I can afford to.
My sister-in-law (Robert's wife) has a new Toyota Rav 4 that is nice as well...if you are looking for an economical SUV.
Take care,
Alex Scoble
