You have some good points, Jim. The blogosphere does echo Hollywood in some ways - the stars get tons of traffic and links to every post, even the throwaway ones. However, what about the bloggers who are stars of their individual niches, but rarely get linked to or discussed outside of that? Perhaps they are the blogging equivalent of indie actors or the cult classic flicks.
There will always be stars that everyone looks up to in every industry/niche/community, but maybe not every blog is meant to be a star or to appeal to all people. I also feel that net community overall is still a little biased on technology related info(check out the technorati top 100 and how many of those sites deal with something tech-related) and as the live web becomes even more mainstream than it already there might be a shift towards more general topics.
