McPhee
Funny you should quote McPhee. I'm just finishing the last few pages of The Control Of Nature. On deck next is Basin and Range. His article about Cretaceous era chalk from the New Yorker a couple months back was excellent. Even saw him speak last year in SF at City Arts and Lectures. A very humble, very intelligent man.
