Nice to have spares
The flashes have lessened.* (I thought they had stopped, but not quite.) The debris floating around in my left eye is still there, and probably will be there (the literature tells me) for months. Very annoying.
I'll need to learn to live with it. Just like I've learned to live with diminished hearing in my right ear.
 Ah, the graces of aging.
 * [Later...] The day is over now, and the flashes are (I hope finally) gone.

Well, either aging - or else a warning from The Big Guy.

Since these are basically just annoyances, it probably means you should spend less time worrying about things, and more time lying in the shade with a tall glass of iced tea, watching clouds.

If you were doing something upsetting, he'd just reboot your system. Jerry Falwell was struck dead....

Thanks.

Actually, I'm having the time of my life. I'm having more fun doing more good stuff that (I trust) is doing good in the world, than ever before.

I'm also more relaxed while I'm doing it. Long gone are the 18-hour days stressing out trying to make a company grow and run. Been there, done that, got a pile of t-shirts (mostly for a guy who weighed 40 pouns less than I do now). I'm seriously dieting and getting into shape (without stressing about it). I love what I'm doing and the people I'm doing it with. Life at home is good, especially when it's on the road with me (as it is right now, here in Boston, where I had a great time with The Kid in the Aquarium and the Children's Museum today).

The almost embarrasing fact of my life is that where I live (Santa Barbara) is a great place to be on vacation while also working full time. In the middle of the day I can pour myself that iced tea, sit outside and watch the clouds go by, if I like. But most of the time if I do that I'll probably also be either hanging with family and friends or on the phone talking about Something That Matters.

Life is good. But almost 60 years of it have gone by, and I have to also face the fact that my body's systems will be breaking down. Hearing is already getting bad, and now eyesight seems to be following. Not fun, but not death, either. Nothing to keep me from pressing on.

Until the Big Guy says "done". Hope he (or she) waits awhile.

I had some of those those little floatie debris things last fall. My eye doc told me that gravity would pull them (slowly) down out of my field of vision--which turned out to be true.

Doc

Been too busy to read much online lately Catching up on your stuff

Turning 60, damn, but I'm more busy than ever it seems. Not as global as you, more local, working on Conservation and Preservation issues, local development etc.

Likely working on timber project, which I think will take 20-50 years to play out, so I'm still thinking rather long term.

Hearing has been an "issue" for a few years, but now that Shirley is experencing the same, I get much less grief from her about mine (VBG)

We have a neighbor who is 96 yrs young and is quite an inspiration. Also know of fellow in town (our little village of 100 or so) who's in his 90's, top 10 nationally in downhill skiing for "seniors (70+)" and both bicycles around our lake daily, but still rides his motorcycle ... like to NOLA!

Keep in mind that 60 is the new "40", and you are just getting started

May you live long and prosper Ciao Chip
