Re: Thursday, April 12, 2007
The University of Wisconsin recently got some "offer to settle" letters from the RIAA and were asked to forward them to the appropriate students. All the RIAA knew was IP numbers. The
University refused to forward them and also refused to identify the students. Essentially, the
University told the RIAA that they (the University) had to abide by FERPA regulations and that they weren't in the business of being "enforcers" for the RIAA. I.e. that's what the court system is for; show up with a subpoena.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
And as for Kurt Vonnegut, I grew up in Indianapolis. I've been in his hardware stores many times.
