Excellent summary -- thanks!
Ad-supported media is corrupt and corrupting. That is the environment in which MSM lives. Regardless of the best intentions of everyone involved, including the most dedicated journalists in the purest form, they are still breathing the polluted air of the environment in which they live and work.
Here's the sad thing -- new business models to support journalism cannot emerge until the ad-supported media is dissipated.
Dissipation is going to happen as marketers pull their dollars away from poorly performing, wasteful, ad-supported media and put their dollars in better performing, more efficient forms of advertising -- forms that are not burdened by the cost of journalism (the bait for the bait-and-switch of ad-supported media).
Unfortunately, the dissipation of ad-supported media is going to be noisy. It won't quietly go by the wayside because it has loudspeakers, satelites and buys paper by the ton and ink by the barrel. It also has misguided billionaires who are willing to squander millions to perform a "civic duty" by keeping newspapers afloat, while at the same time delaying the emergence of journaliam as a valuable and valued product for which we are willing, able, and glad to pay.
I am doing my part by creating mechanism for disintermediating ad-supported media and hastening its death. I want to buy great journalism, and I want to use advertiser dollars to do it. That's what MyMndshare is all about.
