Well if the computer population truely is one billion, as asserted here that works out to about 160 Gb/machine.
Now... that is about right for the average disk drive size shipped with a new desktop system (my guess)... but that's disk capacity not actual utilization. The factory installation of craplets and bloated OSware doesn't count as anything new... so it should be left out as well.
I'm guessing that most end users don't fill their nice new spiffy drives with 160Gb of photos, text, or original content... anything downloaded from the internet also doesn't count as "new" data...
I'm left with the back of the envelope conclusion:
BULLSHIT
But... I'm not an authority on anything, and like Dave... I make this up as I go.
