Stat of the day
What percentage of people do you think are driving while talking on cell phones? (Or vice versa?)
I'd have guessed a lot. But Edhat counted just 11.3%. In Santa Barbara. Wonder if that included people with cordless headsets?
For example, it's often not possible, on sight, to tell if my wife is on the phone or not. She frequently wears a Motorola HS850, which a friend of ours calls her "ear snail". You can't see it under her hair. But sometimes she'll poke her head through her hair and suddenly she'll be talking to somebody.
I've had several of the same headsets, by the way, and recommend them highly.

Ski report, Days 2 - 3
Got another half-day of instruction yesterday, from the same 78-year-old coach. Had a great time with it too, even though I'm still an out-of-shape slightly fat guy who's well into his Denial Years. (Those are the ones that come after Middle Age and before death or dotage, whichever comes first.)
Today I go out with the kid for a final day of skiing before I drive down to CES and the family flies home. Should be fun.
Says here it's 2 degrees outside, with a high of 23 today. That's in town. It'll be a lot colder up on the slopes. Sure was yesterday.
[Later...] Had a good time. Much more crowded, but not bad. The Canyons is a class operation. Great people, great service, great skiing, all very well-run and friendly. (Also extremely international. Among the staff we encountered, Americans seemed to be a small minority. Lots of staffers hailed from Brazil, the U.K., Wales, Australia, Sweden, Germany, Bulgaria and other places.) Really wanted to get over to experience the new Dreamcatcher run, which just opened yesterday, but there wasn't time. The snow continued today, in little flurries, but wetter than yesterday. A lot of the runs were more crunchy than yesterday and the day before, which were much more powdery. Anyway, my legs were shot after the last two days of work, and my control was gone after a couple hours today. The kid did well. He's learned a lot, and we had fun both taking a bunch of blue (intermediate) runs. We definitely want to come back.
A little feedback for , if they're up for it.
First, the lift tickets tear off and get lost too easily. What's wrong with old-fashioned lift tickets that fold over preceding lift tickets on hang tags? You can print bar codes on those too.
Second, too many ticket-like documents — rental vouchers, ski school tickets... — look exactly the same: like lift tickets. How about color coding them or something?
Third, make the levels on the trail maps clearer. The little blue and green dots are very hard to tell apart.
Quibbles, on the whole. Can't wait to get back there.
Now we're watching the local and Salt Lake weather. I declined to spend the extra $20 a day for an SUV, and opted instead for a Taurus. It has front wheel drive, but I'm wondering if leaving way too early for the airport in SLC from here might not be the right thing to try from Park City in the morning.

Opening doors
The first VRM development I'm aware of is Dave Winer's SYO, or Share Your OPML project, which he has detailed in a series of posts, including this one yesterday. I just outlined the three in the new Development efforts section of the .
I encourage developers to jump in and help out.
