VRM and public TV.
Public TV of course is a bit of a misnomer - perhaps a third of funding comes from 'viewers like you'. The rest is from CPB and corporate America. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is funded by federal dollars - which you could construe as public dollars ( I don't!).
I'm very interested in returning Public TV and Radio back to the public. It seems they have become just another faction of 'the establishment' over the years. I blame this on corporate and government monetary input. Of course Public TV folks say they cannot delivery what they do without the gov/corporate support.
I wonder if micro-payments will enter into this picture at some time.
Funding Public TV is not the only issue here either - choosing the programming is still paramount. Wouldn't it be interesting if viewers could actually vote on proposed productions. That would allow that voting viewer to actually produce the stuff on Public TV.
Now that would be truely 'Public TV'.
