The statement may be articulate but it leaves so much to the imagination as to be pretty useless. "The Net" predates the GPL by quite a few years. None of the people who write manifestos in 2001 created "The Net". Microsoft, as far as I know, hasn't claimed to have created "The Net" And they didn't even create the PC or GUIs or spreadsheets or word processors. This argument isn't among creative people, it's among credit-takers, on both sides. Linux is nice, great, now what comes next. (Linus didn't invent Unix, btw.)
