Half home at last
| | I'm half Swedish. Mom was whole, though she was born in North Dakota. Her older sister and brother spoke more Swedish than she did, though she spoke some. Her father was an Oman (Ohman was another spelling). Her mother a Sponberg. Both family lines emigrated through Malmö or Göteborg in the 1870s, to homestead on the prairie. Mom was born in 1913. One or both sides came from Dalsland, I think. |
| | Mom, her sibs and various cousins have found their ways back to the homeland from time to time; but I've never been there. |
| | I'm in Malmö to see what Polar Rose is up to. (Very interesging stuff.) Took the train over from Copenhagen. (Fast, smooth, quiet, nice.) Heading back in a few minutes too. But I couldn't resist shooting a few pix in addition to the one above. You'll find them here. |
| | Tomorrow morning I fly to Virginia. Then home on Monday. |
Doctor, ground thyself
| | Britt Blaser in Successful guys make bad pilots: At 7:36, the intrepid James Sheets, an Air Force buddy wrote, "An inexperienced pilot with a brand new airplane, too much money and too little sense, hot dogging for a friend in a tall building, flying too low, over-controls the plane and stalls. Happens all the time, mostly to doctors and dentists." |

Doc
Tre cool
Spent a few extra days in Stockholm a few years back, late friend (RIP) married there, his kids/grandkids grew up Swedish.
Lots of Swede/Norwegen jokes, lots of "Orta-Dorta"
Further - North Dakota, been there often, dinner the other night and met guy from Fargo, many tales.
Maybe my best is early 70's and touring on a motorcycle (Norton), broke down outside of Bismark. Finally got to town, got bike to town, found a motel. It was Labor Day weekend... only one channel on the TV. There is not enough beer to cope with Jerry Lewis Telethon ALL WEEKEND. Made the repairs, and motored on to the Canadian Rockies
Ciao
