There's one amazing exception to your point 8 about uncomplicated websites--the beta New York Times Reader. The elegance of the format combined with the cross-referencing that the web allows actually makes this BETTER than the paper version of the NYT. Plus you can download the morning's edition and take it with you on your laptop. Someone put some TLC into it.
