Blogrolling
| | - Dean in space
- Coincidence?
- Tom with a Gonzo angle on weblogs: "In linking personal Web expression with courtiership, Millar approaches what Christopher Locke calls Gonzo from another angle: Where Locke seeks to lead business to some wisdom about voice and individuality, Millar appears to see business as personal style writ large."
- Dan not only gives us Linus saying this "...when you get involved in open source, you get equal rights to be involved. You can be another Leonardo da Vinci, you aren't relegated to just paying for viewing his works." but shows his chops as an ace editor by actually getting Linus to respond. No mean feat, believe me.
- Thanks to the TDCRC, a Compendium of Corporate Cringe, plus a demonstration of how Flash sucks.

Best line: "For example, there are currently 860,000 beds available in ACFs, but there are 29 million AOL users."
One of these days the man is going to kill me.
This call's for you, Steve
| | I contend that we need a new star to champion Open Source. A media star. Someone to make the Markoffs of the world sit up and write. If they're going to throw down the gauntlet we need a bad-ass to pick it up. |
| | Reminds me of a story. Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad was giving one of his last concerts. He was sucking and the crowd was booing and he got pissed and threw down his guitar and screamed "If anyone can do it better just come on up here and do it." |
| | A hush grew over the crowd and it began to waiver. A flannel shirt, work-boot clad long-hair climbed up on the stage. The band gaped. He picked up the guitar, said a few words to the band who nodded vigorously. |
| | The man turned to the confused crowd and stepped up to the microphone. |
| | "Good Evening", he said, "My name is Eric Clapton". |
| | The crowd exploded and the band rocked on. |
| | More context here. And here too (check the date on that one... whoa). |
Just don't put any crosshairs on this thing
| | Had a great lunch yesterday with Jim Sterne, who just sent me to a page that shows where I live, long before there was even a building there. See that oval area a bit to the right of the middle? It's now filled with apartments. While the page says the picture dates from 1994, it's clearly from a much earlier time. The apartments here are a good thirty years old. In fact the circle used to grace the lawn in front of the old Potter Hotel, which was built in 1903 and burned down in 1921. The palm trees on the right edge of his picture are stil there. |
Getting past Fear and FUDding
| | I just moved this piece to its own page. Should have put it there in the first place, I know. But hey: I'm still learning here. Got a long way to go, too. |
