Tom, Your comment here sent me read about Lakoff. It is clear that Lakoff has his own intellectual path independent and different from the post-structuralists I had in mind - like Barthes, Derrida, Kristeva. I (mis)understood Lakoff's evangelism about the social and political importance of understanding the power of language over thinking as a sort of necessary re-introduction of older European ideas to today's America.
