Good luck on saving your local paper.
Your blog entry prompted me to issue a few clicks. Clearly I don't understand the issues, the factions, and forces. But this is clear even to a dilletante: there's a huge gap in tonality. Your offer is in the voice of someone committed to conversation. What I see from the editorial page is diatribe. (Sometimes I think three-fourths of the world learned rhetoric at the Monty-Python argument clinic).
As for Dr. Laura's POV on blogs. The woman makes her living because some people with problems are willing to expose them publicly to her radio audience and her ideologically-driven "theraputic" ministrations. What if her callers switched to blogging? And her listeners got their voyeuristic (can you say that about radio?) jollies by reading blogs? There goes the show!
Dr. Laura's objection to rise of the confessional blog might be motivated simply by a shrewd sense self-preservation. The fact that many bloggers are thouhtful, professional, lucid, and literate is not even on her radar. (They appeal to a different audience sement, anyway.)
