Re router speed. Do you run Skype? Do you have the router firewall running but with the sole machine connected in the DMZ? Then do a google search for Linksys and TCP/IP release. The problem is that the router has limited memory but is holding cached TCP/IP connections open for too long. The solution is HyperWRT or similar and a couple of settings. It's not a Skype problem per se, but it's made worse by becoming a Skype Supernode or running protocols like BitTorrent or Limewire/Gnutella that open lots of short lived connections. Or maybe it's something else. ;-)
