Fascinating debate. The context of the argument, I think, affirms Doc Searls point. Another excellent reference to look at is the various books that have been written by Alvin Tofler (Future Shock). In which he says that the formation of "Prosumer" (production / consumer is a natural extention of the technology. On a related note the type of community that is forming at my weblog http://innovation-in-oil-and-gas.blogspot.com attempts to create many of these points that are debated so well here.
