Re: 1989 World Series and Earthquake
We had at least one employee (Jamie Strohecker... wonder where he is now?) who was at the game, and had a dramatic report.
The coincidence has always amazed me: that the biggest earthquake in nearly a century would coincide with the very start of a Bay Bridge world series. It's almost like the strange coincidence of the aparent widths of the Moon and the Sun being exactly the same.
There was so much more, too. Two MacUser reporters, John Anderson and Derek Van Alstyne, had just met with Marc Canter, et. al. at Macromind, before they were crushed in their car by a falling wall in the quake. We also had an employee in the same p;art of SF who barely missed being killed by a bunch of falling stuff in an old building.
There's also an old family story about one of my great aunts/uncles adopting a 6-year old orphan they found wandering the streets of San Francisco after the quake. Don't know the details of that one.
