Sleep and the old economy 'service providers'
What really gets me is the fact that geeks (especially coders) generally sleep late, at least from the ones I've dealt with. There is something about coding late at night without the distractions of the day, such as phone calls and the sun.
But the old economy, the 'service providers' like lawyers, the accountants, even the VCs find the best time for dealing with new companies is early in the morning. I can't tell you how many VCs or lawyers have said "let's do breakfast" mainly because there lunches and dinners are tied up with others in their 'sphere' (i.e. other lawyers and VCs and bankers and the such). They usually back off a bit when I say "ok, I normally have breakfast at 10:00. Where would you like to meet?"
It's funny because I sometimes go to these "meet the new company" breakfasts and there are probably two or three very sleepy guys from the new companies and about 100 "service providers" (usually better dressed) looking to do business development with the "new companies". And the service providers always complain "there aren't enough new companies here!"
Go figure....
