Doc, I believe that DRM is a symptom of the desktop security problem. I'll even wager that DRM is impossible in a secure system.
Thanks to the new clues that AMD and Intel both got about the need for virtualization of the PC processor, we may actually get lightweight, hardware speed, secure virtualization of the PC. Once this cornerstone is in place, a secure desktop system can be built. It'll be quick, secure, and you won't worry about virii, worms, trojans or DRM any more.
DRM will go the way of the buggy whip, but it'll be a pain in our collective asses in the mean while.
