Though I think the out-takes were better
Vegas CES accommodations?
| | I'll be going to CES the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 5-8. All the hotels in the area appear to be full. The last two years I've had luck finding something on the outskirts of town that wasn't too expensive (most hotels have full-gouge prices for big trade shows); but not this time. |
| | The travel services Travelocity, Orbitz, ITN, all yield results when you search Las Vegas hotels for those dates, but when you click on hotels they say "We're sorry, there are no rooms at this hotel for your dates." Why bother to list them if there are no rooms available? AAArg. |
| | Not to mention that all of the sites are sssoooo freaking slow. |
| | So I'm asking for advice or leads here, while I'm on the road from San Francisco to Santa Barbara. |
Really Simple Demonstration
| | I'm at my friend Steve's house here in Marin, answering his question, "What is RSS and what does it mean for me?" |
| | [Later...] Okay, I've showed him. Now he'd like me to recommend a good Windows-based aggregator. That's not my beat, so maybe one or more of ya'll can chime in. |

The killer application for RSS aggregation doesn't yet exist, but at the moment I use Bloglines for on-line reading and Feed Demon for a desktop application. Sage (Firefox extension) has huge potential, but is still a work in progress.

I use Bloglines. Tried various others in between but couldn't find one that is as convenient as Bloglines. There are of course some hiccups - like when their site is down (I haven't got any offline reader yet) or when they intermittently stop fetching feeds.

Radio Userland. It's worth the $ for the aggregator alone. IMHO, can't beat the river of news style aggregator...

Personaly I would recomend NewsGator plugin for Outlook, or RSSOwl, a free Windows-based news agreggator, very good, with a lot of nice features.

Don't mess around with the rest, get the best, Newsgator. Get the business standard plan, and you can get your feeds in Outlook or on the web, and importantly you get synchronisation between the two. And coming soon, at no extra charge, you can have FeedDemon as part of the package, FeedDemon is probably the best of the desktop aggregators I've seen.

I've always used SharpReader, even after trying others. It's Windows based (not web based) and isn't dependent on any other programs (except that it requires .NET): http://sharpreader.com

If you have a car, the two hotels in Jean, NV are still available - they're 25 miles south of Vegas, but my wife and I like getting away from the crowds every day. And rooms are still available at $29/$69 for CES...

I usually stay at Suncoast Casino in NW Vegas. It's about 15 minutes from the strip and after a few hours at CES I'm glad to be away from the crowds.
http://www.vegas.com has an hourly updated availablity function. Seems like Wednesday and Thursday night are the toughest, with getting easier as the days go by.

Try http://www.railroadpass.com/
It's closer to town than Jean and it looks like rooms are available. It's about 5 minutes farther out from where I live and I can get to the convention center in just under 25 Min.

I can strongly recommend Bloglines I use it for my main stuff, RSSOwl for most other things. I have some feeds loaded in Google's Reader, it like it okay, but it did not knock my sock off.
Doc. Why no full RSS feeds on your site? I frequently cannot tell if I should bother to trot on over just looking at your headlines. . .

Maybe somebody else can chime in.

Maybe it's just me. In my Bloglines account, I I get is headers on your blog's feed. However, when I loaded it up just now in RSSOwl, I get complete feeds.
Probably just me being incompetent.
