My local library here in Ypsilanti, MI is also rolling out the netlibrary service in January. I wrote about on my own blog a couple of months ago. I was pissed off because they did a survey last winter about offering such a service, and in it they asked what type of player people use and I am fairly confident that most respondents answered that question with the ipod answer. Since the vast majority of people with digital audio players have ipods and most of the realy cheap players don't support the ms "plays for sure" drm, it seemed stupid to spend our tax dollars on service most of their patrons couldn't use. I was very unhappy about the responses that I got to my e-mails to the library employee in charge of the program. I think if they had made clear that all users with ipods would not be able to use the service when they did the survey they would likely have gotten a much more negative response and hopefully would have just abandoned the idea. In the meantime I will stick to podcasts and ripping the library's books on cd to my hard drive so I can listen to them on my ipod.
