Narrowing it down
| | ...if you can say (or do, or create something that does) one thing well, that single purpose will have a powerful editing effect. |
Coming: a plague of hairy palms
| | It seems that Apple's announcement this week that it has sold one million videos at $1.99 a pop just 20 days after unveiling its new video store and video-capable iPod, has caught the attention of the whole entertainment business. But it has especially captured the imagination of one particular segment--the porn industry, which hungrily eyes every new outlet for its wares. |
| | HellHouse Video has begun selling iPod-compatible titles, including This Little Piggy and Sindi's Wet and Messy Adventure. Suicide Girls, which specializes in an updated (piercing and tattoos) take on pinup girls, has put free clips of its offering on its Web site. And both Playboy and Penthouse are reportedly considering moving into the market. |
| | I'd quote more, but I can't even get the page to scroll down. I've said before that Forbes' website sucks hugely, I suppose because there's all kinds of javascript BS going on in the background, plus a zillion little graphics, forms and cross-promitional crap. AARG. Whatever it is, please stoooooppp! |

iPorn:
I was having a conversation with a friend the other day about the porn industry. I have nothing to back this up, but anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that the porn industry can bring some pretty serious pressure to bear to influence standards of things like the current DVD format battle. Further, it's arguably a fact that they *did* decide that VHS should 'win' over Beta back in the day.
Again, uttetly anecdotal...
This situation is a little difference since Apple owns the hardware and the software that powers the iPod and I can't see Steve Jobs blessing the distribution of porn over iTunes. However, I think it will be interesting to see what (if anything) the porn industry will do to try to get into the game.
