| | At my Aunt Grace's this past weekend, I took a photo tour of the landscape around her house, a former grist mill built in 1729, if not earlier. The tour proceeds from the house, to the mill's dam, the bridge built in 1938 after one end of the dam was destroyed to drain the millpond (and make room for the road this story is so New Jersey, in all the best and worst ways), to the brook itself, its geology, the beautiful yard, meadow and barn behind the house, the groves of trees planted by my Uncle Arch, and even the now-huge Christmas tree we used in 1950-something, which lives on in this Monmouth County paradise. |
