Re: Thursday, August 25, 2005
Hello, I´m writing in behalf of TheThingsIWant.com. I found your link on Technorati.
Basically, you should remember that the way that Google Ads work is through keyword matching bettween what an advertiser bids for and the contents of the page. I believe that we are listed there since we bidded for 'Blog Tools' (at $0.03 USD per click) after we added a way to add our service to your blog about a year ago. I have corrected this now by only having our ads displayed on Google´s Search results (as oposed to any page) for this keyword (Both Search and Any Page are setted by default).
If it serves as any sort of consolation, our advertising budget is incredible small (around $100 USD a month, hardly what you would call "The corrupting influence of Big Ad Money Itself"). And though those ads get displayed a lot they get clicked very sparringly. We setted up Google´s system about a year ago to manage the whole thing automatically with a maximum of spending per month and just completely forgot about it (Honestly, We prefer to spend our time Coding).
As a really small company Google ads is the most cost effective way to reach our target Users. Since we don´t have the budget to contract a PR Company.
Thank you for your time.

I'm adding this for the sake of accuracy (I didn´t remember the exact numbers since the whole thing has been running on automatic for some time):
The bid we were having on 'Blog tools' was of 0.05 per click and our total Spending on Google Ads (all campaigns which include 'Wishlist' and 'Wedding Registry' and similars) this month is so far: $148 USD. I can foward you Google´s CVS if you want.
(BTW The cluetrain manifesto was a real eye-opener).
