Maybe some kind of rating system could help?
Ebay got some nice system where people rate each other in transactions, and maybe something similar, where bloggers rate other bloggers entries, could be done.
Every blog writer got some blogs he reads, and sometimes writes comments. Why not add some kind of rating.
With this information you could create a web of trust, like PGP does it, or connections like openbc got them. And usually there should be very few connections to entries of automated blogs, compared to manual written blog entries with real readers.
Probably automated blogs would automate rating of each others entries as good, but even this might be put to good use: you just need to negate scores of one automated blog, and all related should be negated, too.
I'm not sure about the details, this is just some funny idea. But I think the solution to blog spam are not the big search companies but the bloggers themself.
