Re: Monday, May 30, 2005
Blogs and blogging are indeed ideal for making and changing minds .. and so as there is so much information being linked together and tacit knowledge being expressed in various forms, an early responsibility I think we all have is to begin *exercising* .. to get into shape for listening more, and thinking more deeply, more critically while we are *listening* ...
... stretching our own beliefs, judgments and stereotypes, examining them to see if they continue to hold water for us as we come across new information, facts and points of view to which we will not have access via the mainstream, corporate driven media.
In an era that loves talking about responsibility and accopuntability .. we all have a challenge in front of ourselve to become more accountable and responsible for our own awareness and the uses to which we put our awareness.
The meritocratic environment that I think these dynamics help create (which i believe you have identified often) also will ask of us that we have a collective fundamental responsibility for each of us, individually, to acknowledge and consider others' perspectives and points of view and seek to uncover the wisdom in those .. to add to any wisdom we believe we may have to offer.
Ongoing dialogues over time, scaffolding meaning (as i believe you once put it) .. rather than point-counterpoint discussion in which you win or I win or someone else wins ...
My $.02 - we're all responsible, individually and collectively, for what we do or don't do with the great gift of an interlinked environment, and the world we (eventually) help make with it.
