When I read "Getting Flat" my first reaction was "I think I understand better why I quit teaching." I went into teaching with great enthusiasm. It wasn't that I wanted to change the world; I thought it would give me a chance to work in a creative environment. There were moments of creativity, joy, and fun. But by and large it felt like my soul was being sucked out of me 50 minutes at a time; I am sure the students felt the same. There are responses to this message:
