Some Notes on Radio's Evolution
Dear Doc,
In the past you have commented on the music industry and a while ago (Wednesday, February 12, 2003 on your blog) you mentioned that you no longer listen to NPR as much as you once did. I would like to mention a few bits I have noticed here in the North East in the past few months. Radio stations are starting to advertise as having "More music" - an hour (more or less) of uninterrupted music. I first noticed this when I went home from school for Thanksgiving break. One of the radio stations in New Hampshire had changed to this more music format. About two months later, coming back to school after Christmass break, a station in Maine had done the same thing. Since then I have found others that do the same thing. I would be interested to know if you had heard of anything similar elsewhere. Also I am wondering if there might be a relationship between the radio stations playing more music and an increase in the number of people listening to such things as satellite radio and web casting. Anyway, some food for thought. I would be interested in any comments.
Yours,
Alex Armstrong
