On the continuing end of broadcasting as usual
Forward
'tisn't the season
| | The kid has been singing, for no apparent reason, "Deck the halls with bowells of holly." |
| | Just didn't want to miss writing that one down, somewhere. |
Without the smog, everyone would freak
| | So, where do you think? Zermatt? St. Moritz? Banff? |
| | Mt. Baldy had record snow for skiiers today. Or for snowboarders. Skiing these days is about 80% snowboarding, one guy told me. |
| | My Nikon crapped out a few weeks ago. It was under warranty, but its "lens error" (Nikon's blue-screen-of-death equivalent) was indeed fatal, though the camera was still under warranty. "It'll be back in four to six weeks," the store told me. Coming up on four right about now. Anyway, I brought along a memory card when I went skiing yesterday, just in case somebody had a camera I could borrow. Well, somebody did (a little Canon of some kind), and the top pic was one result. |
| | The bottom pic I shot from a plane en route from LAX to SBA on January 14, a few minutes before I took the La Conchita mudslide shot that I ran here that same day. |
| | As you see (and surprisingly few know), the Los Angeles basin is surrounded by alps. |
| | So I'm writing this from a motel by the highway in Diamond Bar (slogan: "Five Exits!"), where we're grabbing some sleep before we head back up there tomorrow. |
| | Mt. Baldy is the big one near the left edge of the shot, by the way. The ski area is in the notch just to the right of it. |
| | I just experimented a tiny (very tiny) bit by putting more Baldy pix up at Flickr. While Flickr is undeniably a great service, the photographer in me can't help wincing at the fact that it apparently doesn't like vertical shots, automatically rocking them 90 degrees counterclockwise. True, it does allow you to rotate them back for viewing, but still. |

LeRoy's on Huntington Drive in Monrovia. Take Huntington exit (west of 605 on the 10 heading toward Pasadena), head east, and it's on the north side of the street near corner of Mayflower w/ Mimi's/McD's/HomeDepot Expo. Really good diner fare. If you're doing atkins, I change the basic two eggs, bacon/sausage thing as follows: Eggs, bacon or sausage, substitute cottage cheese for potatoes, ask for a tomato slice stead of toast. they give you the whole damn tomato, practically. Then if you like salsa w/ eggs, it's a must-have. Looks like it was too late for this time around, but if you do it again. And, um, I gotta give you my number so I can meet you there if events favor it. :) Will send in private email.
