Check this map here. Note the Santa Monica Mountains park in the lower right. Note the Pacific Ocean to the West and West-Northwest. Now pull back to this map here. Note that there is some ocean between Santa Barbara and the Santa Monica Mountains. Not much, but enough to show up in that picture.
