Where are you located that you can see the sunrise over both the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains? I tried to find such a spot on MapQuest, but my geographical knowledge of California is a bit weak.
Also, on the subject of geography, the state list drop down on your registration form does not have a choice for the District of Columbia. While it isn't truly a state, none of the other choices are accurate for my location. I chose Maryland -- about 0.5 miles from my house.

Check this map here. Note the Santa Monica Mountains park in the lower right. Note the Pacific Ocean to the West and West-Northwest. Now pull back to this map here. Note that there is some ocean between Santa Barbara and the Santa Monica Mountains. Not much, but enough to show up in that picture.
As for the D.C. oversight, I'll let the right people know. :-)

Thanks for the geography lesson -- the map links helped a lot. That's pretty cool that you can see the sun rise over the Pacific. I was in Ft. Lauderdale, FL over Thanksgiving and saw the sun rise over the Atlantic a couple times. It's quite a sight.

We live on the only western coast in the U.S. that faces almost due south. Which is why they call it the South Coast. In fact that small edge of the Pacific is a bit South of East; but as the Winter Solstice approaches, the Sun rises farther and farther to the South. In the Summer, it rises North of the Santa Monicas, and over land. We get treated to this scene only from November-February.
