Re: WBAI
I worked there for two summers as a volunteer. And I mean WORKED there, going in every day, Monday through Friday, working a full day. What a wild ride for a teenage kid looking to break into radio!!
Josephson was great, Post was great, let's not forget Bob Fass, Richard Lamparski, and Bob Ortiz, to name but a few.
In later years after WBAI became the home for left handed green eyed radical one legged challenged whatevers, and so many of the "formerly mainstream counter culture" types of the mid and late 60s were pushed out, there was the morning show of Steve Post on WNYC-FM (before it turned into a commercial-like overly consulted version of a mass appeal to big-doners station)(and this from a guy who made his living as a consultant to broadcasters for 20+ years).
Post in the morning was a delight that remains unmatched.
Of course, I still miss the calls to Larry the Bagel Man from Larry the Bagel Eater, and the William Tell Overture, as enhanced by Josephson.
