New Who
On the other Dan...
Congratulations, Dan!
| | Author of We the Media and San Jose Mercury News columnist honored for innovations in technology journalism. |
| | I had breakfast with Dan this morning, and he modestly failed to mention it. So, a belated, and virtual, high five. |
Pit stop
| | Thanks to folks who are letting me know there are problems at IT Garage. We're working on them. |
| | Okay, they're fixed. It's safe to go back now. |
Maybe now, in my lifetime, it finally will
| | I've got an iName. It's =searls. I got it from 2idi, the first among a new breed of company: identity brokers. I'll get some more iNames, but that's the first one I wanted to claim. |
| | I believe what the guys at Identity Commons, xdi.org, Cordance, NeuStar (and other related companies and efforts, all independent, all working on grass roots, open source efforts) are up to will finally give us what I call The Fully Empowered Customer. For lack of that character, the dream of Networked Markets we wrote about in Cluetrain has not come to pass. |

Blog and learn
| | Blog Cooperatives are businesses jointly owned and operated by their members. BlogCoops are for-profit ventures that embrace emergent democracy as a means for governance and decision-making. |
| | The purpose of the site is to generate discussion about the idea. I won't go into details here, since I have just completed 28 entries on the subject at http://www.blogcoop.com/. Please visit the site and join in the discussion. |
| | The Blog Cooperative link now goes to Seeq, with the message "blogcoop.com is for sale." (Its Blogshares aren't doing so good, either.) Not sure what happened there, but I know failure often teaches more than success, and I salute Mark for trying. Also, I think the experience could be good fodder for the Making Money session at Bloggercon. |
Podcasting live
| | Bonus link: Podcasts introduce brave new radio world, in the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette. It's actually Susan Carpenter's piece from the Los Angeles Times, finding its way out to the rest of the newspaper world. |

Thanks for the heads up about Adam Curry being on The Brian Lehrer Show. I just listened to the stream then called in to WNYC! I mentioned my podcast www.audioactivism.org and that I heard about the show from your blog. The best part is I’m in Durham, NC listening to the mp3 stream! All of this happened, from finding out about the show to talking on air, in about 30 minutes. Wow! Thanks Doc!

God knows I love Boing Boing, and I don't doubt that it's the most-linked weblog on that list, but I do have trouble taking a Top 100 list seriously that doesn't have Talking Points Memo on it. Anyone know why it's not there?
(In unrelated news, anyone else disturbed to see the phrase "don't crush that dwarf, hand me the pliers" in the context seen on that page?)

On identity, I created mine at 2idi (=drewmills) and want to do the same for my kids. I'm curious how this will work out and sent the following comment to the 2idi crew:
I have two children for whom I would like to reserve inames. They are both minors and cannot use credit cards obviously. If I add them to my account, will it be possible for them to become independent of me some day? In other words, is there a way I can transfer control of their identity to them, maybe as a high-school graduation present?
I'm curious about what it means for children to have identity? They have several legal constraints on them. How will this kind of identity fit a child? Should I control my children's identity? If so, how much control should I exert?

So after being number two on Technorati for so long it's nice to see Boing Boing at number one -- but what in the blazes ever happened to the former number one Slashdot? I have a post on my blog that shows slashdot.org should still be higher ranked than Boing Boing. What gives?
