Cluestorm your direct mail spammers
| | I think it's time to turn the tables and start getting paid to insert flyers and upsell messages back to the companies we all do business with. Time to pay the local San Diego Gas & Electric utility bill? Fine, here's the check, and oh, here's a coupon for 15% off on your next meal at our favorite restaurant. Time to pay the phone bill? No prob, here's the check, and here's a flyer from the very nice people at Jiffy Lube. Time to pay the fees to your local fitness club? Cool, here's the check, and here's a flyer for discounts to Landmark Theatres. Time to pay off more of your credit card bill? No prob, here's the check and here's a coupon for a family of four to go to Sea World at a great discount. Potential employer has asked you to send in a cover letter and your resume to be considered for that job you heard about? Excellent, and here's a flyer for that bicycle company in La Jolla that's offering half-price rental deals through August. |
We're still not there
| | It seems to me, that if it is to reach its true potential, blogging needs to be easier for people everwhere to simply click on and self-publish. Those who have not yet come may not want to understand how it works or why. |
Radiating on the Garage band
| | Right now I'm the only writer over there. In the long run, which starts any time, we'll have any number of writers. What we're looking for are folks who work in the IT trenches, and have interesting stories to tell about how they solve their own problems, with or without the help of vendors. |
| | I'll explain more over there. |
| | By the way, the site is done in Drupal, a highly sensible, capable and flexible CMS, or content management system (an initialism that uses two of my three least favorite words). My only complaint about it is its twist on the meaning of "blog." As I understand it (and I may be wrong, "blog" is the name Drupal gives to any one writer's collection of posts. So mine is called "Doc Searls's Blog." Given the name we use over here, that can be confuzzing. |
| | But Drupal is also highly customizable, so maybe we'll change that default. For now it's not a top priority. Others, such as getting a real design, come first. |
| | Again, recommendations and feedback are welcome. |
