Re: Thursday, March 18, 2004
What amazes me is just how much ink gets spilled on Howard Stern and his ilk - and how little is spilled on the actual threat to free speech - the McCain/Feingold "reforms" in campaign finance. It's entirely possibly that 527(c) organizations (MoveOn and other similar groups, regardless of their politics) will have their ability to air ads against (or for) the President (or any member of Congress) ruled illegal per the "soft money" restrictions of the law.
So while you are all in a tither over utter irrelevancies like Stern, your right to help fund speech that would influence the elections - you know, the sort of the speech the 1st Amendment was intended to protect - is busily being taken away.
Congratulations for being taken in by the stupid stuff while the really important things sweep right by.
