Doc,
I live in Mexico. I don't know where you're going to be but I would say if you're staying in a 4 or 5 star hotel, your chances are 50/50 that they will have some type of Internet connection (odds improve with international chains like Holiday Inn Express, Four Seasons, Mariott, etc.).
Many of the ubiquitous Sanborns restaurants now have wireless access (Prodigy Movil)although they charge. They now have pre-paid cards available or you might be able to work something out at the restaurant but I've never tried that. Here is the page where you can consult locations ( http://www.prodigy.com.mx/cgi-bin/cdprodig/localidades/pl_buscador.jsp?scriptId=BProdigyMov ). They also have coverage in some airports and other places.
If you are in a fairly decent sized metro area, there is also a fairly high probability of finding an unprotected hot spot. Business districts and well-to-do residential neighborhoods are your best bets.
Buen viaje!
Daniel
