Leaving Las Vegas
Report from Starbucks: I just heard that the lines at airport security are three hours long. Hope not, or I'll miss my 11:30 flight. It's 9:00 right now and I still haven't returned the rental car.
[Later...] Got in, sans bags. America West couldn't open the cargo door of the plane, so everybody's bags had to stay in Las Vegas. They also said the flight was overbooked, and offered $300 vouchers to four passengers for not making the flight. When we took off there were about eight empty seats. I sat next to a guy who was going to Santa Barbara because the America West reservation agent mistook Santa Barbara for San Luis Obispo. He needed to rent a car and drive up to SLO.
On arrival, passengers were told that their bags might not be delivered until tomorrow. Maybe later. Several were freaked because they planned to leave early in the morning and had little faith in the airline's ability to forward the luggage. While they were heading on to their next destination, they figured, their bags would be delivered to the Holiday Inn they had just left. I fear they figured right.
I keep swearing I'll never take America West again, but sometimes there's not much choice.

Applied democracy
About the Emergent Democracy Worldwide session at the Digital Democracy Teach-In, the Head Lemur says,
This may be the single most important seminar of this conference. Participation in Emergent Democracy requires a computer and an internet connection. This is the bottom line. Where you can go from there is limited only by your desire and participation. While we have this group of folks in the building, let's lower the bar bills and increase the participation in emergent democracy.
Then he adds a suggestion: A computer roadshow. Interesting idea.

I think such things could afford to learn from the eGov4All virtual conference of last year. http://www.egov4all.org

Frankly, people are being allowed into the event based on geography and the ability to pay $1k+ US. That certainly doesn't show anything about 'Emergent Democracy'. *sigh*

People just don't get it.
