I got the first one around eleven or twelve years ago... 1992 or '93. Not sure. Like the next two, I beat the shit out of it. Used it heavily, every day. Eventually the pump gummed up on that one. I repaced it with the second one about five years ago. That one has held up fine, but I wasn't good about filtering the water here in Santa Barbara, which is full of calcium — or something white that leaves deposits on everything. I also got tired of fighting the rust, which I mentioned in my post. So I gave it to a thrift shop and bought a new one last summer. So the life expectancy of these things is really pretty high, I think.
