Okay, now what about Ball State?
It wasn't just the jokes. Or the drop in applications. No, what really got to Beaver College was something more... explicit: site filtration. The college is changing its name to "Arcadia College" because "some Web filters intended to screen out sexually explicit material blocked access to the Beaver College Web site."
Go to the Beaver site, wait for the obligatory Flash movie to end (have patience, it's the only way), click on the "exciting news about our new name," and you'll find no sign of the one answer that the least Web-savvy potential student would like to know:
What's the new URL?
You can look through the FAQ, the crap about "focus groups," the "dynamic presentation"... and find nothing. The only clue is in itty-bitty type at the bottom of the image ad.As one would hope, it's www.arcadia.edu. One small problem. Type that URL in your browser and, voila: "The specified server could not be found."
I guess they don't want to be too explicit about that.
Oh: This just came from Nick Usborne: I think you missed the best part of the Beaver story...
On July 16, 2001 we will be... Arcadia University Since 1853.
