Doc, you and I are, I believe, about the same age. You're a Tarheel who left and I'm a Yankee living in Cary. I lost both parents in the last six months of 1999. That's four years now, and I think about them every day. You will, I'm sure, do the same, and take comfort from it.
It is striking that the loss of a parent is a universal sorrow, yet it is difficult to imagine any other time when we feel so alone.
Even if we humans are not unique in the Universe, life certainly seems a rare and precious thing. There is solace in accepting and understanding the first, and greatest, gift given to us by our parents.
