Link out
| | I'm here, somewhere in Long Island. My bag is still somewhere else. What the hell. I'll be busy sleeping, so I'm gonna hand off the blog to RageBoy, who's doing some fine shit. |
Off we go
| | I'm already on East Coast Time here, which means it's pushing 2am. At 5 or so I arrive at JFK. I'm in New York through Tuesday, with heavy work commitments. Expect light blogging. |
Solving the mystery
| | Anyway, maybe we can give Jared some help. |

Hello Doc:
The weather's really been nice here in NYC. If you have any spare moments to enjoy one of our parks, I can give you some suggestions for public hot spots.

To make sure a blog gets into Technorati, you can submit it manually at http://newhome.weblogs.com/pingSiteForm. Technorati uses the Weblogs.com feed as a seed for their database. I just submitted Jared's blog, and it should show up on Technorati within about 5-10 minutes.
I just checked and it's now listed. Only two links so far. The reason (I agree with The Scobleizer Weblog), is that he doesn't have any links to other bloggers, so no one has found him (until today). Bloggers find other bloggers via referrer logs, trackback pings, and via Technorati. Now that you have linked to his blog, that's probably all the help he needs -- watch his cosmos grow throughout the day :-)
The bottom line is, blogs are conversations -- and Jared's blog hasn't yet engaged in conversation with other blogs.
Regards,
Mark

Dan Lyke - Other reasons nobody's reading Jared

I ranted shortly on why nobody's reading Jared's blog. Summary so you don't have to click through:
- More insightful coverage of the same stuff over at AvWeb.
- He says "I'm following best practices for e-mail campaigns." When the facts and the theories don't coincide, respect the facts. Unless they're really carefully done, email campaigns mostly just piss off your target audience.
- I'll bet that the target audience for $800 regurgitations of the travel page is not blog readers, and in targeting his blog to that audience he's just not attracting people who want a little more in-depth investigation.
Sounds like he needs a big ol' whack with the clue-stick more than an RSS feed.
