Saturday in tech support hell
I'm surrounded by nonfunctioning computers. I can't log onto the new Linux box (the new login/pw combo doesn't work) and the old one is more server than workstation. Both Macs are screwed. This one is less screwed than the laptop. Right now I'm listening to Apple's support line music for the third time today while waiting to talk to somebody about the problem I just posted here.
Between the last paragraph and this, we (AppleCare tech support, for $49, and myself) got the laptop to play DVDs. Conceptually, this should be like getting a dog to bark, but this is a computer running a foo-foo operating system, exploding at random for the simple reason that I'm asking it to do something functional. The repair consisted of a "clean install" of the OS, which is kind of like repairing a brick in the foundation of your house by reducing everything above it to boards, replacing the whole foundation, and reassembling the house from memory.
Meanwhile, Joyce is still doing just fine surfing the Net, exchanging faxes, running Word and doing email (with Eudora) on an 8-year old Mac 8100. It only crashes about once a month, probably because Jeffrey plays game CDs on it.
I have a feeling it'll be "most" at some point
Joyce just asked me what percentage of weblogs were by women. Good question. Anybody know?

My old pal and business partner, David Hodskins (together we were 2/3 of Hodskins, Simone & Searls), just pointed me to the funniest video I've ever seen about the ad agency business. I'm still laughing.
