So crossload some cash
The Tip Jar is open at Lynn Siprelle's NewHomemaker.com. Soon as I figure out PayPal, she's getting some of my cash.
I just did. It's done. (Aside: PayPal allows you to opt out of promotional email, rather than opt in. As suckage goes, it's minor. But I still hate it.)
Paper trail
Just got a nice Cluetrain sign-up from a top HR guy at International Paper. Here's what he says:
Short Comment:
The market today requires that organizations remove barriers to communication and information sharing among employees, customers, vendors and other constituencies. The manifesto, especially comments 44, 45, 47 and 48, give some good advice on how to do that.
Long Comment
I am so glad to have found this site!! I talk with people at other companies all the time about the approach we have taken and I am advised that I need to have more control. People still don't understand the difference between control and structure-- and that controlling the internet is like controlling the air: it can't be done. I will look to this site for more ideas on how to help people understand this new world. Maybe some basic Eastern philosophy of using the force instead of opposing it would work. In any event, I am glad to have found a source of energy and inspiration.
The inspiration works both ways.
Xtreme log rolling
Pyra/Blogger's Evan Williams says (with ironic and very real modesty), "Did I mention we're not very good at this PR thing?" Good God. This comes right after he says this:
So, apparently, there was a big cover story in Media Industry Newsletter -- a $2,000/year publication for media industry execs -- about blogging. They didn't talk to us, and I don't know the whole gist, but Blogger was mentioned, as well as our (previously unmentioned) relationship with Advance.net/Advance Publications (owners of Condé Nast magazines, CondeNet, daily newspapers in 22 cities, Parade, yadda, yadda, yadda...). Which, yeah, btw, is, um....something.
This was so modest I scanned right past it and wouldn't have caught it if I hadn't been re-pointed to it by Scripting.com.
The weblog movement is the crack in the sidewalk that's going to be a volcano. Look at Bloghop. Behold the gusher of news that is Weblogs.com. Or consider the influence of Slashdot, Kuro5hin and Advogato. I remember one day in the press room at Linux World Expo, when every terminal in the room was tuned to Slashdot. Not to CNN, NBCi, The New York Times or whatever. I mean... Slashdot. In a room full of professional journalists.
