... Lakoff that is. The great cognitive scientist has weighed in with Metaphor and War, Again. If this thing doesn't move to the top of Daypop and Blogdex, the peacebloggers aren't doing their jobs.

Like the current war in Iraq, this piece is a sequel. The original is Metaphor and War: The Metaphor System Used to Justify War in the Gulf.

Both pieces are brilliant.

The second one contains The Fairy Tale of the Just War, about half-way down. I've written about that before too, here and here.

O boy... Michael Kelly was killed in Iraq. Learned that from Joshua Micah Marshall, off a pointer from Ed Cone, who also says local congressman Howard Coble was not only a fellow alumnus of my alma mater, but won't be giving the commencement address there.

I hope I finally get to meet Ed during one of my visits here.

3 planes, 3 thousand miles, 4 airports, 18 hours. Could be worse.

We left our house in Santa Barbara around 7am yesterday. We just arrived at our hotel in North Carolina. It's 4:35am. We didn't leave Chicago until after Midnight. Getting the car wasn't quick, either. At least Alamo — apparently alone among all the agencies at RDU — stayed open waiting for customers to arrive at 2-something in the morning. Bravo.

And bravo as well to Comfort Suites. We've got a room the size of a small apartment with free high speed Internet access for $60/night. I've got the wi-fi base station jacked in, and I'm typing this standing up in the bathroom (so the light won't disturb the others) before brushing my teeth and crashing.

Full weekend coming up. Gotta get my hair cut again at Mr. Wood's place (I've grown kinda bushy on top in the 2+ months since the last time I was here). Then I play wedding photographer today and tomorrow (my standard wedding gift is a pile of boffo candids that leverage what's left of my way-background as a newspaper photographer). Mom's birthday bash is Sunday. Should be fun.

Been watching Iraqi Sat Tv via Holland today. As one who has listened to Radio Peking in the day, the old cold war Radio Moscow, the ham handed Radio Berlin International, and even the god awful Radio Tirana, Saddam TV just beats you over the head with a stick. Our stuff via Information Tv and Radio is at least watchable or listenable. Think Russia at the time of Stalin and you have what you're watching.
