Re: Wireless rates
T-Mobile just lowered its rates. Doc, you were paying for unlimited national service under their old rates. The new rate is $30 a month (with one-year commitment) or $40 per month for month-to-month service with a $25 cancellation fee when you stop the month-to-month.
If you buy 300 minutes for $50 ($8.33 an hour), they burn it up in 10-minute minimum then 1 cent per minute. It's the only plan I know in which prepaying results in a higher rate, except for the minimum, which is how they justify it I guess.
Bernie, for business travelers, $30 a month for several hours of productive time is a no brainer. You can burn up $30 a month making local dial-up data phone calls from hotels that now charge 50 cents to $1.50 for 30 to 60 minute local calls and then a per minute charge after that.
Wi-Fi is very attractive at $30 to $50 a month under that scenario.
