With more laws we'll all be lawless
Back up
| | I've been told you need a spleen to blush. I don't have a spleen ('cause of this, which reads worse than it is, and removing the spleen 41 years ago made no difference, which is why it's still kind of a mystery), or I'd blush over this. |
Downtime
| | Several things happening at once here. |
| | First, I'm getting a new business-grade connection from Cox, which will supply me with IP addresses and not just DHCP (and blocked ports so I can't set up a server). It's 3x the price and .5x the speed on the download side (from 3Mb to 1.5Mb). But it's necessary to make my Linux and other boxen Net-native. |
| | Second, I'll be moving a lot of Searls.com over to a new hosting service. Hope there won't be too many interruptions. That'll happen this weekend, or later. |
| | I won't go into the rest of it, which isn't technical, but it's necessary to get my business life in better shape (basically, I suck at that stuff). So I'll be going dark for the next few hours. |
| | Cue up the National Anthem... |
And...?

Why create more jargon when we could just say "transfer" or "fetch"? (I was never happy with "upload" or "download", either. Yes, I'm somewhat of a language purist and a troublemaker.)

Daytimers don't shut down until 5:15 in Winter on the East Coast, 430 in Maine,NH and MA.
Besides when was the last time you heard a radio station sign off with the National Anthem?
And KB is back. WWKB 1520 is playing oldies with a lot of the original staff, like being back in college with Jackson Armstrong on my drive home.
Remember when 50KW CLEAR CHANNEL Am's played music? And were not either Sports or Talk or News?

Can you emlighten me to the origin of the pseudo-word "boxen"? It annoys me to no end to see this word used and find no reference to it in an online dictionary. What is the attraction to it over the correct plural of box, boxes?
Best of luck with the Cox upgrade.

Of course, that should be "enlighten". Pot, kettle, black. :)

From a Judiciary Committee news advisory dated yesterday (1/29/03):
"Rep. Howard Coble (R-N.C.) will serve as the new chairman of the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. A ten-term member, Rep. Coble previously chaired the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property."
Cheers!

It's a fairly common expression in the Unix/Linux world. Plural for box. See and here.

KB won't be the same without the old wKBw jingles.
BTW, KB's co-channel 50kw flamethrower for the West, KOMA/1520 in Oklahoma City, has also been an oldies station for years. In fact, they claim to be "America's Number One" oldies station.
If channels were still clear at night, we'd get them here on the Left Coast. Alas, they're obliterated by a local in Ventura.
When I'm East I still enjoy listening to Joey Reynolds on WOR, reminiscing about the old days. He's very good at it. Caught a few minutes in North Carolina on the last trip.
Do you remember what Joey did when he left KB? (Trick question... the clock is ticking...)
